Seeing a positive portrayal of how a good parent should react in this situation... made me think about how much it would have meant to me if I had heard such acceptance and reassurance at that age. It opened up some difficult feelings of my own past experiences. It choked me up to feel them come back up, but it was something that I needed. A realization that what I had to go through was so not right. The acceptance of that helps me remember I should always be proud to be myself, and I think about how grateful I am that today I'm free to be me.

Times are changing, which means more young people will have a dad like Mateja's. That's something I'm so happy about. Thank you for sharing this story.

While the emotions themselves weren't exactly pleasant, it's always amazing to hear that something I made left an impression on someone and made them feel something - it's honestly the best thing a creator can ever hope for. I'm sorry that your experience was far from ideal, but I'm also very happy that you managed to navigate the long and winding road to self-acceptance. And here's to more people having coming-out moments more in line with this comic!
